Sex Drive

Our libido or sexual desire is influenced by a combination of biology, our upbringing and our present circumstances.

Most people find that outside pressures, of work or family can have a negative impact on their physical relationships. Sometimes the expectations we place upon ourselves inside the bedroom can impact upon our levels of desire, too.

There are many factors that affect sex drive – stress, depression, relationship problems, medical conditions such as diabetes, and certain medications (including some antidepressants). Obesity, alcohol and drug abuse and in rare cases a hormonal imbalance can all affect your sex drive.

The fact is, your sex life can (and does) come and go depending on changes in both external and internal circumstances. It's important that you and your partner are open and honest about sex, including whether and when you want it and how you want it to be.

If your lack of sex drive is worrying you speak to your doctor. Your doctor is there to help and they will be able to talk through some of your concerns.
