Unfortunately, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), are becoming increasingly more common. This does not seem to stop young people from engaging in risky sexual activity that puts them in jeopardy of getting an STI. Possibly the best method of prevention is to educate your children on the dangers of unprotected sex.

One of the more common infections that is transmitted through intercourse is HPV - or Human Papillomavirus. This often causes no symptoms but can cause genital warts. What is especially concerning about HPV is that it may be a significant contributor to cervical cancer. Your local health clinic may be able to talk to you about HPV prevention, which includes a vaccine that is available for young women and said to prevent certain strains of the virus. This may be instrumental in reducing the number of cases of cervical cancer due to unprotected sex. (more...)
